Safety Data Sheet (SDS/SDS) is a document consisting of 16 standard sections, mandatory for harmful substances and mixtures, and is provided to the supply chain in Turkish.
Sections; It covers product description, harmfulness, composition, first aid, fire fighting, post-accident measures, handling and storage, exposure control, physical-chemical properties, stability, toxicological and ecological information, disposal, transportation, legislation and other information.
It is essential for the SDS to be up-to-date, accurate and compliant with CLP/CLP in terms of both legal liability and occupational safety. ONAY Mühendislik Prepares and updates SDS.
Logical Flow of Sections
The sixteen chapters are not randomly ordered. The first three sections describe the identity and hazard of the product; four to six describe emergency response; seven to nine cover safe use and exposure control; gives the stability and toxicological and environmental effects of ten to twelve substances; The last four sections include waste, transportation, legislation and other information. Knowing this flow enables quick access to the information sought.
Most Frequently Error-Made Sections
Most errors in application; It appears in the composition in section 3, exposure controls in section 8 and transport information in section 14. Typical findings include giving concentration ranges incompatible with the classification in the composition, using limit values that are not valid in our country in chapter 8, and incorrectly stating the packaging group in the transportation section.
Interpartition Consistency
The most quickly noticed nonconformity in the audit is the contradiction between departments. The classification and label information in section 2, the composition and calculation inputs in section 3, the physical properties in section 9 and the transportation class in section 14 must overlap with each other. This consistency often breaks down in forms compiled and combined from different sources.
Turkish and Regulatory Compliance
For products placed on the market in Turkey, the form must be in Turkish and use the official expressions in the CLP Regulation. Preparing the original form in a foreign language with machine translation causes both official statements to be lost and national legislation references to be missing. Reference to national legislation is expected in chapter 15.
Who Can Prepare the Form
The safety data sheet is prepared by a certified preparer who has the document required by the legislation. Forms prepared by uncertified persons are considered invalid even if their content is correct. The information of the preparer and the preparation date on the form are the basic elements that show the validity of the document.
Editing the Safety Data Sheet Archive
When the Safety Data Sheet archive is kept on a product basis and by version number, it is instantly visible which version was sent to which customer when the update arrives. Correct forms kept in scattered folders are ignored when not found in the audit. Linking the Safety Data Sheet archive to a single responsible person ensures that this order is sustainable.
