After Brexit, Great Britain operates UK REACH, a system separate from EU REACH. Manufacturers and importers placing substances on the GB market are subject to registration or notification under UK REACH; EU-based companies cannot register directly and require a GB-based representative. UK REACH after Brexit
The United Kingdom operates its own chemical registration system, separate from EU REACH. Companies placing substances on the Great Britain market at one tonne or more per year fall within its scope. Northern Ireland is different, since EU REACH continues to apply there.
Grandfathering and DUIN
Two transitional routes were created. Grandfathering allowed GB companies holding an EU REACH registration to carry it into UK REACH. The downstream user import notification route covered companies that previously imported from the EU. New market entrants now follow the standard registration path.

- Tonnage band and the matching data requirements
- A GB-based representative or importer structure
- Legal right to use existing EU study data
- Dossier submission and fee payment
Three regimes at once
An exporter may face KKDIK in Türkiye, REACH in the European Union and UK REACH in Great Britain. The data sets overlap heavily but the submissions are separate, so we always start from a single inventory showing which substance sits in which market and at which volume.

Northern Ireland and the two regimes
Northern Ireland continues under EU REACH while Great Britain follows UK REACH. The same product can therefore meet two legal regimes within one country. Map your customers by destination before deciding which registration you actually need, otherwise you may pay twice or miss an obligation entirely.
