Extended Safety Data Sheet (eSDS) is a type of SDS prepared for harmful substances that require a Chemical Safety Report and includes exposure scenarios.
Exposure scenario; It describes how humans and the environment are exposed to the substance in specified uses and how the risk is controlled. Subusers should check whether their usage falls within these scenarios.

When an Extended Form is Required
The extended safety data sheet appears for substances for which a chemical safety report is required and for cases where the substance is classified as hazardous. The exposure scenarios attached to this form describe the conditions under which the substance can be used safely. The difference with the standard form is that the attached scenarios contain binding terms of use.
Structure of the Scenario
Each scenario; It consists of usage description, operational conditions and risk management measures sections. Processing conditions include quantity used, processing time, temperature and ventilation conditions. Risk management measures define concrete measures such as local ventilation, use of closed systems and personal protective equipment. The scenario also includes the estimated exposure level and risk characterization rate.
Downstream User Liability
The downstream user must compare his own conditions of use with the conditions in the scenario. If the conditions overlap, the application continues. If not, there are three options: change the conditions to fit the scenario, inform the supplier of its own use and ask for it to be added to the scenario, or prepare its own downstream user chemical safety report. This evaluation must be done within a certain period of time.
Documentation of Comparison
The most missing step in practice is not recording the comparison in writing. The question asked in the audit is not whether the script has been read, but whether it has been compared to your own circumstances. A simple comparison table meets this obligation by showing which parameter corresponds to which value.
Transfer to Field
If the scenarios remain in the quality file, they will not achieve their purpose. The ventilation, time and protective equipment requirements they contain need to be incorporated into the work instructions and risk assessment. This transfer also produces evidence in terms of occupational health and safety legislation; A single work meets both obligations.
Comparison Chart for Exposure Scenarios
After reading the Exposure Scenarios, the only concrete thing to do is to make a parameter-by-parameter comparison with your own operating conditions. A simple table with lines for ventilation, duration, temperature and quantity is sufficient. The question asked in the audit is not the existence of the Exposure Scenarios document, but whether this comparison was made.
