What are UFI and PCN in Turkey?
UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is a 16-character code that must appear on the label of hazardous mixtures and links the product to its poison centre notification. PCN (Poison Centre Notification) is the submission of a hazardous mixture’s composition, trade name, UFI, product category, toxicological information and hazard classification to the competent poison centre, for emergency health response. Importers and downstream users placing mixtures with health or physical hazards on the Turkish market are subject to these obligations, and notifications must be updated when the formulation changes. UFI and PCN explained
The UFI is a sixteen-character code that links the mixture in the package to a notified formulation. The PCN is the notification itself, submitted to the poison centre so that medical staff can identify the product instantly in an emergency. Hazardous mixtures placed on the Turkish market need both.
How the UFI is generated
The code is derived from the company tax number and an internal formulation number. Different formulations require different codes, so a company that reformulates a product must create and print a new UFI rather than reusing the old one.

Keeping it current
Changes in composition, classification or packaging require an updated notification and often a new UFI. A new trade name must be reported too. These updates are easy to forget and are among the most frequently cited findings.
