UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is a 16-digit code that must appear on the label of hazardous mixtures and is associated with the PCN notification.
Creation and compliance: UFI is generated with free tools from the company's tax number and a formula number; appended to the label with the prefix 'UFI:'; Separate UFI is required for each different formulation. PCN notification and label made without UFI are considered incomplete.

Structure and Generation of UFI Code
UFI is a sixteen-character unique formulation identifier and is generated by using the company's tax identification information together with the company's own formulation number. The code cannot be chosen randomly; must be generated via the official generator. Code generated for the same formulation always produces the same result, making the code verifiable.
For Which Products Is It Mandatory?
UFI liability arises for mixtures classified as hazardous to health or physical. Mixtures that only pose environmental hazards are excluded from the scope. UFI is not required for pure substances. Although the notification content differs for products used in industry and products offered for consumer and professional use, the code requirement does not change for classified mixtures.
Location on Label
The code must appear on the label in a readable format and with the UFI prefix. The most common mistake in practice is that the code is only specified in the safety data sheet and not transferred to the label. It is essential that the code is on the label even when the packaging is small; If the inner packaging cannot be labeled, it must be shown on the outer packaging.
Formulation Change and New Code
Whenever a change is made to the formulation that exceeds the notification thresholds, a new UFI must be generated and the notification updated. Changing the trade name does not in itself require a new code; It is the composition that is decisive. If the same composition is sold under different trade names, a single UFI may be used, but all trade names must be listed in the notification.
Compatibility of Notice and Label
The main point of the audit is whether the code on the label matches the formulation in the notification. Stocks on the market with old labels even though the formulation has been updated are a source of non-compliance. Therefore, when deciding on a formulation change, the transition plan for the label printing stock and existing products on the market should be determined at the same time.
