Detergents are subject to the EU Detergents Regulation (648/2004) and relevant national rules, covering surfactant biodegradability, ingredient data sheets, labelling and notification obligations. Surfactants must meet ultimate aerobic biodegradability criteria. Non-compliant formulations cannot be placed on the market.
